About this session

For some students, math stops making sense at some point and starts being about manipulating squiggles on the page to find answers. In this session, we’ll explore in a mathematical sandbox and see the power of multiple representations as tools for mathematics as a sense-making discipline. We’ll focus on the role of manipulatives and mathematical language as tools for student-centered sense-making and problem-solving as students transition from whole numbers to fractions, decimals, and integers.
